The Woman Behind the Man
I wanted to give a nod to Mom who does everything for us and takes such good care of Judah. She's there with ironed pillow cases, new pajamas, clean clothes, newspapers, whatever she can get her hands on. Duarte is up to 2 hours away in traffic and mom goes twice a day during the week, before and after work and all day on the week-ends. She's home about 11 pm and leaves the house by 8 in the mornings. Pixie won't stand to be ignored and still demands a walk in the evenings.
Grandpa will be here this week as well as a several other guests from out of town, including Josh Katzan, our cousing Joe Sarachek and our good friend Theresa Freese aka "shiksa" in this blog.
Regards to all. Thanks so much for the comments. We read them all the time and it really brightens up his day.

Send my love to Mrs. White. Between her and my own mother I have no hope of being such a great mom.
do i need a new name now that i've been revealed?

Hey Judah- looking good! Keep up the really hard work. I hope the Chagall picture is still adding some color to your new room. We are going on a Disney cruise this week with David's entire immediate family. Should be a lot of fun. Can I bring you any Mickey paraphenalia?
And Martha- you are amazing- you inspire me every day. You are the best. (Don't tell my mom I said that!)
Love,

About Judah's (and Alyssa's and Benjie's) mom: She consistently manages to spend more than 24 hours a day thinking and caring and inquiring about other people, both her beloved family and everyone else in her universe. Her loving acts, both small and large, set a standard few of us mortals will ever be able to equal. She is an amazing person.
Hi to the Whites-
If I know my friend Martha - she will be mad at Issy's comments, and will try to shush her, but it is totally true - she is an incredible stong, courageous woman and an inspiration to all of us.
As for Judah - we are so happy to hear of constant improvement and healing.
Love, Stella

Martha,
You are an inspiration to all of us new parents.
Judah, hope you are feeling better. We'll be thinking of you over the 4th of July weekend.

Mrs. White - you ROCK!
Judah - albeit brief, it was great to see you on our last visit to LA in April. As much nasty crap you've had to deal with, your spirit remains undaunted. A true inspiration to all.
Wishing you well --
Stu & Sally Drexler
Thanks Issy for singing your mom's praises - Martha, your care, compassion and bravery really are beyond words. I know where Judah gets it from. Hope today is a better day than yesterday.

Hey Judah. It's Jill Franklin in Chicago. I'm so glad to read of your progress. My husband says Misheberach for you every morning when he davens. You are always in my thoughts and prayers. We're rooting for you. Hopefully you can't watch the Dodgers in your hospital room. It would only make you feel bad!
Much, much love, Jill
There's a term for what Issy described: Eyshet Chayil. You're an inspiring family.
Just out of curiosity: How many folks out there iron their pillowcases? Am I one of the few who doesn't?
;-) -Zehava
Ironed pillow cases? Must be something about the name Martha...;) Where is Duarte, anyhow? Is that one of those there's-one-near-you's you only hear about from car commercials?

Hi Judah,
Just checking in. Hope you are doing well and cheering up.
Always thinking of you, shiksa
Martha, Issy put into words how everyone feels. You are always there for everyone else, and you discount your generosity as if it were nothing at all. You really are amazing and I hope you realize that!
Judah, I hope you are having more good, and less crabby days now! Just continue to get well and come home soon. By the way, do you get ironed pillow slips at home too?
Love,
Janet
Hi Martha, Issy, Judah...
We have a book of Ruth in the Bible. We should have a book of Martha too.
Too bad the Bible is canonized already.
Martha, you are indeed amazing.

Iss, the tribute to your mom is well deserved. Your mom has always been a most special person ,unwavering in her determination, love and support for family and friends. No matter what the obstacles, her boundless strength and compassion are always there. Iss, tell your mom a little secret - pillow cases now come perma press.
Love, Aunt Marsha
Judah,
It was great to see you today! As I've mentioned to you, you look better than last we saw each other just over a month ago-- you are more yourself: crabby, bad jokes and all! :)
For anyone reading this, know that your well wishes and prayers are working. Judah is strengthened by all of you, and he looks stronger.
Judah, I know you're handling more than anyone would dream of having to endure, but you're doing it with dignity--all the jokes about your crabbyness notwithstanding--and you have genuinely earned the right to be called an inspiration. You have always been a blessing for everyone else, and I'm glad you're opening up to the blessings everyone has for you.
Looking forward to seeing you before I leave tomorrow. Get some sleep.

Hey Hey, Judah White. I dined with the Heinous Anus last night -Persian food for him, Chinese for me. Kosher, of course. He gave me the JDW update firsthand, which I drank in thirstily. I can picture you at the C of H in your sexy PJs, cute knitted cap on your noggin, NY Times close at hand, diet Cokes ready for the drinkin'...Being with your tae-kwon-do-doing, guitar-playing, Rashi-quoting, profanity-spewing, long-haired curly-headed, Van-Halen-loving, Boychic-smooching freak of a friend was the next best thing to being with you. I miss you!
Spotted on a flyer at the kosher Persian reaturant: "The next best thing to waking up is Gemara in your kop."
