Judah's doctors haven't yet come to see him but Dr. Forman's Physician's Assistant Barb was here. She says that Judah's chest x-ray today looks slightly better than yesterday's. She expressed concern, however, that he is outputting a lot of urine and he has a higher than normal creatinine level. This may indicate a complication with his kidneys, so Barb is bringing in a nephrologist. Judah has great respect for nephrologists. My dad used to say that they (and Infectious Diseases doctors) were the smartest doctors around (with the exception of some very smart non ID or nephrologists, such as, Les Eber, Errol Hackner, Les Stricke, Eric Nelson, Roger Burga, Ron Andiman, Malcom Cosgrove, Sam Smith, Ralph Carmel, Dr.Nemetz, etc. etc.) Anyhoo, until we have an opportunity to pow-wow with Dr. Forman we can't tell if things are going one way or the other.
In the meantime, we are sitting here in this slightly-too-cold room talking to Judah occasionally and reading (and re-reading) the newspaper.
More will come...

Hey Benj. I'm sitting in my slightly-too-cold office reading the blog. I'd rather be there with you all, but I'm here, looking out at City Hall and downtown L.A. Do you ever feel like this is all a dream, or a movie? Do you ever find yourself watching it with a filmmaker's eye? I bet Judah would imagine it through the lens of a camera, or would paint it with watercolors, or draw it with soft graphite on smooth white paper. Please kiss your mama and sister for me, and blow a big one (germ-free) to your bro.

Judah, the Dodgers are gearing up for a run at the pennant. They laid the groundwork by losing on Saturday and Sunday, but, even though they are nine games under .500, they are only 4 games out! They need your encouragement, so time to get well, so we can go to a game! Alex

Judah:
The discrepancy between your peaceful demeanor when I saw you yesterday and the battle that is raging inside your body is astounding. Even more astounding is your strong will to live even in the face of what must be immeasurable pain resulting from chemo and infection and cancer. Isn't it odd, and amazing, and paradoxical that we (friends and family) draw strength from your strength, and that your will to live gives us hope? So many paradoxes. And yet, in the face of all this confusing uncertainty, is the rock-solid unwavering love that envelops you and the rest of the Whites. Fight the fight, Judah, and be well.

Love,
Zehava

Just got home from work and immediately checked in with you guys. I thought about you all day. Hopeful about the lungs, anxious about the kidneys, glued to the blog.
Love, Abby

Hi Judah!

It's Eyal - Erika and Aud's cousin. I am following your life through your blog, with so many other friends, and am praying for your recovery.

I will be in Santa barbara for a couple of days in Mid-August. This is the starting point of a year in the US, mostly in Princeton. Anyhow, SB is quite close to LA, so I guess it's within driving distance from you, and I really want to visit. Please make sure you have some free time!

I was told people were sending you lots of candy these days. AMERICAN candy that is. What on earth are they thinking. I will stock up on some EGOZI and PESEK ZMAN for you. More specific requests are welcome! I wonder what a real Jewish sweet would be like. Probably chicken-soup flavored.

I will also send you some pics of my latest contribution to human kind. She is called Tamar and is almost 10 months old. I don't think she knows she is a contribution to human kind yet - she seems to think that the world is some fun place where you can splash water and throw balls around, but we will fix that very soon.

So I/We hope to see you in two weeks or so - don't forget!

cu,

--- Eyal

Hi Judah. Well, I don't know if you remember, but I stopped by this morning around 11:30, just in time to miss your entire family. I had a great time updating you on my not so exciting life and you listened beautifully. Like always! You looked better than I imagined, and it was still you under all those wires and beeping lights. Keep fighting the good fight- you are awesome!
