Nine Weeks

Jill Franklin had a baby! Mazal Tov Zoe Nemetz turned one!

The gardners have begun to fertilize the lawns for winter grass , the night sky presented a new moon. Thanksgiving will be here soon even though the stores are preparing for Christmas,

The beat goes on. and so it does!

Dear Mrs. White,
I met Judah at UC Berkeley in 1985. His girlfriend at the time, Nellie Agbayani, was my roommate’s best friend, so we would see each other from time to time. Later on we became friends in our own right, (though I have to admit that for a while I harbored some romantic interest in him—those eyes, that long hair, such a nice Jewish boy!) In fact, I believe you and I met when Judah was hospitalized on campus with an illness I no longer recall.
This fall marks 20 years since I fled the midwest and began my studies at Berkeley, and it has created a lot of nostalgia for me. I find myself Googling former classmates and friends, wondering what’s become of those folks I’ve lost track of over the years. It was in this way that I just learned of Judah’s death.
I know they are belated, but please accept my deepest condolences on his loss. Even though our friendship did not survive the college years, I remember Judah fondly and well. He was a special guy, a real mensch, and I can only begin to imagine the void his passing has left in your family.
My thoughts are with you all.
Best,
Gail Rosenbaum Doeff
