Intubated

We've had so many visitors. Still no word from the doctor. Bill G., we just got your post card, thanks. Zioni Zevit was here and sang some zmiros bedside. Jeremy Fine bought silk flowers. Judy E. was impressed, they look real. Reals are not allowed here in BMT/ICU unit. The nurses are amazing. Whirling around, inserting tubes, handling gunk. Never losing their cool.

Peter was here, visiting. To look at him you'd never know he'd been sick.
He has pearly white teeth, a healthy tan and overall ruggedness. His brother bought him a black ferrari, yup the real deal, when he got out of here. His brother was also the donor. Peter's real name is "Piam" or "Pi" for short.

The hospital is chilly. Bring a sweater if you come.

Love to all - AAW

If someone could read this to Judah I would appreciate it.

Hey Judah, It's 4:37 and I'm sitting in my office overlooking the strech of the San Diego Bay. Allow me to paint you a mind picture. The sun is still high in the sky, so the blue water is reflecting a lot of bright light; mostlikely giving G-d a major head ache. There are some scattered clouds leaving pockets of shadow on the water. In the distance a few sail boats and a seagull are crossing. It reminds me of when we were looking out at the ocean in the hills above Malibu where we would have our profound chats about life. No doubt our views and perspectives have changed, but I look forward to discussing them with you as you get stronger. I recently survived a huricane in Mexico and had some interesting conversations with strangers in the wee hours of the night when the eye of the storm passed over the sheltar. I thought of you because I knew you would have loved the adventure...and yes, it made us all a lot stronger, a point you have made and proved to me over and over again. Even from the ICU you remain the Master...
I'm sending you a hug like I have done for years when I am not there to deliver it in person. Your doc could do it, but I'm way more cute.
Get some rest and I'll tell you more grasshopper tales later.
Wink, Susie ...the greatest..

Keep your will strong because this battle is so worth winning!!!
Am keeping my image of you laughing, and sharing jokes with all of your friends around the table at home fresh in my mind because these photo's are too painful to look at.

In praise of the sibs:

Thank you so much Issy and Benjie for taking the time and emotional energy to keep us all updated so regularly. This blog has been a G_dsend for those of us cheering Judah from the sidelines who want to feel connected without getting in your way or taking over the ICU. You are wonderful and we appreciate more than you can know. (Not to suggest that your resilient and courageous brother Judah and your wonderful mother are exactly chopped liver...)

May Judah heal quickly and retaliate by turning the tables and documenting every nuance of your lives. And soon.

We love you all.
Andrea

Dear Judah, Martha, Benji and Allisa-
As tough as it was to see Judah in that state, I pray for him and all of you every night and something tells me that he is going to be alright. Judah is a fighter and I saw it in his eyes when we would do laps around the BMT together. Mom also is having a 2 day prayer at her house where a major portion is going to be dedicated to Judah and your family. I believe Farah broke the news to her a few days ago and she was absolutely crushed... but she also prayed a lot for Judah and wakes up in the middle of the night to pray for him often… She told me that she has a good feeling that he is going to be alright. The same feeling that I get. Anyway, I am really happy that you are updating this blog often and I check it a couple times a day.
So as far as my name(s) go… yes its true that I have many. Payam was my given Persian name. Then when we came to this country, we had a neighbor that couldn’t pronounce mine or my brother’s name (Pejman)… and the neighbor loved the band KISS so he affectionately renamed me after Peter (the drummer) and my brother after Paul Stanley. My brother liked the name so he has been Paul ever since. I went back to my routes in elementary school and wanted to be called Payam again. The kids at school couldn’t pronounce my name so they started calling me the “Purple Pieman”… to refresh your memory, he was the evil guy in the cartoon Strawberry Shortcake. Then my nickname evolved simply to “Pi”… and actually all of my closest friends and family still call me that. I use Peter now just for business purposes. I went back to it because I got tired of people slaughtering my name. It was more for me than it was for them. So there is a quick history on the evolution of my name! You can call me anything you feel comfortable with… just please don’t call me Betty and I wont call you Al! What song was that from? 
Keep the faith and stay strong for Judah. You are not alone in this battle. You have lots of people that love you, including us. If there is anything my family or I can do for you, please let us know. We love you all like our own family.
Love,
-P
